Details

Our preschool program will prepare your child for kindergarten and promote optimal learning and development.

Research has proven that early experiences have a profound effect on development
and learning that will shape their motivation for learning throughout their life.

Gymnastics

Gymnastic classes offer our preschool students the opportunity to develop healthy muscles, enhance flexibility, and brain stimulation through obstacle courses and movement. Each class includes gymnastics instruction taught by a qualified coach at no additional cost.

Classrooms

Our preschool classes use two classrooms. The Academic Room is used for more direct teaching and learning. The Discovery Room is used to learn and grow through play and activities. Students move again to the gym area for gymnastics instruction and physical education.

Exploration

In the Discovery room students rotate through centers that include dramatic play, building, sensory, teacher directed learning and/or art. We use "play as learning" where students learn to follow routine, structure and directions. The ability to socialize and appropriately play with their peers is emphasized.

Math

We use the Get Set for School curriculum for math. This program provides teachers with easy-to-access ways to help children visualize mathematics with in-depth mathematical understanding which includes (remove 10 different) manipulatives. Research supports the use of manipulatives in the classroom. This program focuses on basic math concepts such as colors, size, counting, quantity, numbers, shapes, sorting, patterns, graphing, and measuring to prepare students for kindergarten. In Pre-k we will supplement the Get Set for School Curriculum with “Hands On Standards.”

Art & Music

Music, art and other activities are used to emphasize all lessons being taught in our curriculum.

Values & Ideologies

At Jump Up we only teach basic traditional values and we do not incorporate any ideological instruction. We do recognize traditional U.S. Holidays such as Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Halloween.

Assessment

Our four year olds will formally be assessed two times yearly. At the end of August before classes start, and in April. This assessment provides a developmental checklist covering six domains of learning: Gross Motor, Fine Motor, Pre Writing, Cognitive, Language, Self-Help, and Personal/Social development.

Science and Social Study

Each week we have a different theme. Some themes are science related such as learning about animals, seasons, germs, or the five senses. Other themes are Social Studies related such as friendship, emotions, holidays and community helpers. As themes are being taught each week, we tie literacy into each weekly theme by using books and activities.

Literacy

Basic literacy knowledge is taught using Get Set for School’s “Language and Literacy” program. This program includes; letter sounds, sounds in words, rhyming, basic letter/word/sentence knowledge, compound words, syllables and story knowledge such as predicting, retelling, setting and main characters.

Writing

Pre-K students use Get Set for School “Readiness and Writing.” This program focuses on the correct way to write uppercase letters. Pre-K students will be introduced and learn the correct way to write lowercase letters towards the end of the school year.
Preschool (3-4 year olds) students are taught the letters of the alphabet throughout the year as they coordinate with the weekly theme. The focus with preschool is to recognize and learn the letters and their sounds.
